Bert Welsh joined WIN Home Inspection Franchise during the Great Recession. Now he has a thriving business and a new TV show

Bert Welsh, a Win Home Inspection Franchise Strategic-Partner from Fresno, Calif., is now a local TV star. Welsh’s new show, “Ask the Home Inspector,” debuted in January on KAIL TV, a VHF channel popular in the Fresno area.

Bert, who joined the WIN Home Inspection team in 2009, says response to the 30-minute Saturday morning show has been “extremely well received.”

“The show is already proving to be a great educational tool for my WIN franchise, and I’m getting some great feedback,” Bert says. “People call in and email with their questions. It’s surprising how curious the callers are. They are full of questions about what to expect from a quality home inspection.”

Bert’s WIN Home Inspection franchise, which serves communities such as Clovis and Fowler near Fresno, has blossomed since beginning. In 2013 he conducted over 300 home inspections, which placed him in WIN’s President’s Circle Club for high achieving Strategic-Partners. He credits his success to two things — WIN’s support and training and the fact that he’s a “people person” who believes strongly in the power of consistent marketing and networking.

“I’m always thinking about ways to promote by franchise,” Welsh says. “This is not a business that will allow you to just hang your sign out and wait for people to come to you. You need get out there in your community and talk to people.”

“It has really worked for me,” Bert adds. “Even when I was first starting out, I made sure I found ways to get my name out there. Your marketing can evolve as you go along. You can keep evolving to a larger level as your franchise grows. But I do know one thing: Strategic-Partners who back up highest quality home inspection services with consistent marketing will succeed.”

Not surprisingly, “Ask the Home Inspector” show isn’t Bert’s only successful marketing technique. He is a frequent guest on a local radio show hosted by Fresno area Realtors and a sought-out speaker for local groups. He also makes sure to send roses on Valentine’s Day and poinsettias at Christmas to Realtors and other professional colleagues.

“The little gestures go a long, long way,” he says.

Bert credits WIN for giving him the tools and the confidence necessary for effective marketing.

“WIN’s marketing materials are excellent, and the training is outstanding,” Bert says. “WIN showed me how to get past the gatekeepers and how to get into the offices to meet the brokers. If you follow the process WIN sets you up with, it really works.”

“As I learned things, I was able to grow my business in a down market. At this point, I’m in control of my own destiny and that’s what I was looking for at this point in my life. Owning my franchise makes me part of the community. I know hundreds of people that I didn’t know before in the real estate industry.”
