Home Inspector Licensing Requirements in Mississippi
Start here to ensure you’re fully compliant and ready to succeed by understanding the licensing requirements for home inspectors in Mississippi.
The first step is completing a 60-hour training program approved by the Mississippi Home Inspector Board. This training will provide you with the skills and knowledge required for conducting home inspections.
After completing your education, you will need to take and pass the NHIE, a comprehensive exam consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions. The fee for the exam is approximately $225, and a score of 500 or higher is required for passing.
Mississippi home inspectors are required to carry general liability insurance with a minimum coverage amount of $250,000 to protect themselves from potential claims.
Inspectors must also have errors and omissions (E&O) insurance with a minimum coverage of $250,000 per occurrence. This policy protects inspectors from claims related to negligence or mistakes in their inspections.
To apply for your license, you must submit a $175 application fee and a $325 licensing fee to the Mississippi Real Estate Commission’s Home Inspector Division.
Along with your application, you must include a copy of your high school or college diploma/transcript, proof of insurance, and fingerprints for a background check. Ensure all forms are notarized before submission.
