The South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation requires applicants to complete a 120-hour state-approved home inspection course.
After completing your education, you must pass either the NHIE or the South Carolina Home Inspector Exam. The NHIE is administered by the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) and consists of 200 multiple-choice questions. A scaled score of 500 or higher is required to pass. Exam details will be provided once your application is approved, and the exam fee is approximately $225. Additionally, you must pass the South Carolina Business Management and Law Exam.
Once all requirements are met, submit your application and pay the $80 fee to the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.
If you have prior convictions, you will need to undergo a national and statewide background check. A criminal record does not necessarily disqualify you but must be disclosed.
