Why Military Veterans Love the WIN Home Inspection Franchise

Many vets are transitioning to successful business ownership at the WIN Home Inspection franchise

As we celebrate the start of summer on Memorial Day weekend, let’s not forget to thank the veterans who have served our country so proudly and so well.

At the WIN Home Inspection franchise we show our commitment to veterans through our WIN for America program, a $1.2 million initiative that awards veterans the opportunity to receive up to half off their franchise fee. The program was inspired by the International Franchise Association’s “Operation Enduring Opportunity,” a concerted effort to help vets find jobs and start businesses.

For many veterans, buying a WIN Home Inspection franchise is more than a career, it’s a life-changer. Retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Shilo Harris chose WIN as “the gateway to a new beginning.” Shilo, a Wounded Warrior, has designed his WIN franchise as a family business by employing his wife and son.

“I’m able to provide for my family through a built-in successful system that allows me to thrive,” Shilo says.

Leonard Curto, a U.S. Air Force veteran who lives in Thunderbird, AZ, is another former service member who took advantage of the program. “The WIN for America program is what caught my attention and brought me to WIN Home Inspection,” Leonard says. “It’s an amazing concept for veterans, and I’m grateful WIN has made this process easy for me to become my own boss.”

Sgt. Michael Ryan Palmer joined his parents in the family business in Bend, OR, in February 2013 after five years of active duty with the Marines. “Most of the guys I know are still trying to get back on their feet, and I was really lucky to have this business to come straight into,” Michael says. “I couldn’t ask for a smoother transition; I went from working in uniform to working in a WIN-issued polo. Every single day, I feel like I accomplish something. Coming out of the Marine Corps, I felt like I was really making a difference, and I still feel like that, helping my clients make one of the biggest decisions of their life. What I do matters.”

Vets bring advanced skills, leadership abilities to franchising

“It’s no secret within corporate America that military training sets a career course, and most veterans excel in the workforce,” says Steve Wadlington, President of WIN Home Inspection. “Our military veterans respect core values, commitment and teamwork, making them ideally positioned for success within WIN Home Inspection.”

Mark Slocum agrees. A former Maintenance Chief in the U.S. Marine Corps and one of the newest Strategic-Partners at WIN, Mark believes vets have a lot to bring to WIN. And he feels very strongly that WIN is the best home inspection franchise for vets.

“Veterans have an unique ability to think out of the box, as well as an ability to find solutions to problems,” Mark says. “I also believe most veterans have an unwavering devotion to whatever duty they have chosen, whether that is serving their country or serving their business. We have a winning attitude and a never-say-die attitude. WIN has great respect for our military, going out of their way to ensure all of their franchise owners have the support and tools necessary to be successful.”

Bill Gray discovered the WIN Home Inspection franchise in 2010 when he was reading an article in “Air Force Times” magazine. The former Master Navigator in the United States Air Force has since gone on to establish a successful multi-unit WIN franchise in Phoenix, AZ. Bill also believes strongly that many veterans are perfectly suited to transitioning to business ownership and franchising.

“In the military you must strive to be the best you can be and get promoted, or you will be escorted out,” Bill says. “The military provides the training and opportunity to advance, but in the end an individual’s initiative and ability to maximize what is provided while concurrently managing their career path will determine success.

“The business opportunity with WIN Home Inspection is very similar,” Bill adds. “WIN provides the opportunity and training, but it is up to the individual to take advantage of what is provided and create their success.”
